1.5L OHV, Diesel, 28HP (rated), 3 hours mowing with a 5ft brush hog in medium grass, 1/8th tank of fuel. Tractor has an 8 galon tank. so it used ONE GALON, while running a 5ft mower, moving it’s weight and the weight of the mower over three hours. The manual states that fuel burn at rated HP output (under load) is .76GPH, this was .33GPH. Thats feels insane to me.
/has never owned a small diesel tractor before
edit: at the tractor’s maximum speed of 13.8 MPH, this fuel burn would be equivalent to 41.4 MPG... which, I guess, seems pretty believable when you frame it that way. Combined weight of mower and tractor is just a bit over 4000lbs. I can see removing the load to operate the mower and increasing the load to move the vehicle just about canceling out...

Yes, but the combined weight of the tractor and mower is somewhere just north of 4000 pounds (~1820 kilos) and has a top speed of 13.8 MPH in top gear at engine RPM limit ;)

That's simply amazing no matter which way you look at it.

I’ve always wanted to get a small one... like half the size of yours, and put it in a motorcycle. It would be heavy as hell and and take forever just to get to a reasonable speed (like 70mph) but I could travel cross country on a thimble full of fuel!

There’s actually a forum for that: http://www.suckindiesel.com/thingy/
It’s largely a British forum, so most of the bikes there are conversions of Royal Enfields (which are apparently really common there) using 406 cc Chinese clones of Yanmar single cylinder air cooled diesels, making about 10 hp. 60 mph is doing good.
There are other, more powerful, options though, some of which are discussed there.

Judging by the visible fuel level in the tank, it’s pretty close. Certainly not wildly off.

I’ve kicked the idea around for a while and was at one point very close to starting the project. I wanted to use a Hatz 2G40 industrial engine, it’s closer to 20HP, and stuff it in a Ninja 500 chassis I got for free.

A few years ago, I planned on doing a three-wheeler using a Ruggerini MD150 (12 hp stock, but the difference between it and the 16 hp MD151 is the setting of one screw (the rev limiter screw), and some paint on that screw), which is a 654 cc aircooled twin-cylinder. Still have that engine in my storage unit, but never got a space to do anything with it, much less actually did anything with it...

I’ll have to look for one of those, could be perfect for the diesel bike.
